In the 2004/2005 season, after relegation from Serie A, Perugia aimed for an immediate return to the top category. With the new coach Colantuono, he finished in fourth place (later transformed into third after the offenses of Genoa). After the championship, a serious financial crisis emerged in Perugia, leading to the bankruptcy of the club on 15 July 2005 after a century of history.
