ANECDOTES AND CURIOSITIES

Lazio, coached by Sven Goran Eriksson, came from the famous 3-0 defeat in the Uefa Cup final against Inter. The transfer market, however, brought Vieri, Stankovic, Mihajilovic, Fernando Couto, Ivan De La Pena and Sergio Conceicao to the Biancoceleste, as well as a recovered Nesta returning from injury. In the championship, Lazio finished in second place but managed to win the Cup Winners' Cup and the Italian Super Cup. Marcelo Salas was the season's top scorer with 24 goals, 15 of which came in the league.

It was a disappointing season for Cagliari, which once again risked relegation. The Sardinians were saved by Leonardo Semplice, who took over Eusebio Di Francesco's position on the bench. The turning point came on the 31st day of the match against Parma: 3-1 down, Cagliari went 3-2 down and then, in the last four minutes of injury time, scored the winning goal and the overtaking goal, condemning Parma to Serie B.
