A Napoli full of absences goes to the Marche with only 14 players, including the second blue goalkeeper. At 79 'Careca is injured; Ottavio Bianchi has already thrown into the fray the only player of movement available and so, with the number 16 and in the role of striker, Raffaele Di Fusco enters. On the other hand, in the shadow of Vesuvius comes the prestigious Uefa Cup, won in the double final against the surly Stuttgart, with a score of 2-1 at the "San Paolo" with goals from Mardaona and Careca and with the result of 3-3 in Germany. Place of honor also in the Italian Cup.

The 1988/1989 season of Napoli can be said to be positive. Careca was Napoli's top scorer with 27 goals: 19 in Serie A, second place in the scorer rankings behind Aldo Serena of Inter, 6 in the Uefa Cup, second place in the scorer rankings behind Torsten Gütschow of Dinamo Dresden, and 2 in the Cup Italy.

ANECDOTES AND CURIOSITIES:
The 1988/89 season will be remembered by Napoli fans for their European success in the Uefa Cup. In the double final against Stuttgart, Ottavio Bianchi's blues will be able to raise the prestigious trophy thanks to an internal victory and a draw in Teutonic land. In the championship the Azzurri bowed to the overwhelming power of Giovanni Trapattoni's Inter; in the Italian Cup, after a positive path, he reached the double final to be played against Sampdoria. The 1-0 home victory was not enough for Napoli, then overwhelmed in Genoa by the Sampdoria with the final score of 4-0.

ANECDOTES AND CURIOSITIES:
At the starting line of the 1988/89 season, Napoli had given the green light to the sale of some valuable pieces, players who in their respective years of militancy in the blue jersey had not a little supported the Neapolitan cause. Garella, Giordano, Ferrario and Bagni left the Campania capital not without controversy and were defined as "the rebels of May". It was later discovered that these players were forced to leave Naples because they were considered the main conspirators and protagonists of a conspiracy against their coach, Ottavio Bianchi.

The Azzurri team, led by Rino Marchesi on the bench and Corrado Ferlaino as president, counted among their ranks Ruud Krol, a skilled Dutch defender employed in the role of free. Napoli expressed good football also thanks to the experience of the Dutch Krol, he has cultivated ambitions for the championship until the last few days.

Despite the good squad, well managed by the coach Bianchi, the progress of the Azzurri in Europe was very disappointing. The blancos easily overcame the round with Napoli despite the draw with the goal of the “San Paolo”.

For the next 5 matches Maradona will go online regularly, contributing significantly to the conquest of the second blue championship.
