The jersey of the English team, although it has very simple lines and colors, certainly has some peculiarities that make it unique. The product, in fact, is characterized by a cream background on which there are thin vertical red stripes, while on the back the cream color is predominant and uniform. The North East club crest is sewn onto the left side. Both the cuffs and the important V-collar are in jersey and feature both jersey colours: red and white.
The teacher James Allan founded the 'Sunderland & District Teachers Association' in 1880, a sports society made up of teachers only, but the following year the name was changed to the current one and non-teaching athletes were also admitted. Initially the shirt worn by the players was blue, but when it became a professional team in 1885, it switched to the colors and lines still in force today.
