Despite this, the Sampdoria team manages to place itself only in eighth place in the championship standings. In the first part of the 1995/1996 season, the Sampdoria team did not yet have a commercial sponsor and for this reason the players sported a jersey that reads 'Samp for peace' on the chest, in order to spread a message of positivity and auspicious towards the conclusion of the war in the Balkans.
